Carrie 7: Iron Mecca Mock X

Instructor: John Golli

Pittsburgh, PA

Spring 2012

The new Carrie 7 Visitor Center acts as the bridge between Pittsburgh’s industrial history and modern asthenic elegance. It is literal built from of the foundations of its historical ancestry and reinvasions the ideas of preservation and archival restoration. Standing in the place of the once bustling Carrie Furnace #7, the new center speaks to both its sister furnace #6 and the structural quality and visual presence of the site as a whole. The basic premise of the new structure steams for the concept of exposing the user to an experience that existing site does not permit. The center has become more than just an

exhibition of industrial artifacts; it is an exploration into material massing and various illuminative qualities.
